Music has always played an important role in our lives, although it has changed form greatly, with ever increasing speed, and today, music is instantly available to almost everyone, in any form... if you like classical music, you don't have to wait for the next concert to hear it -- and if you like to make music [see artistic], the amount of money you have to spend is also quite limited.
People often judge you [see me] by what kind of music you like. The `best' thing is often to have some sort of `weird' music preference, because then you've `chosen' it for yourself (blargh)... like you still couldn't be influenced by others? I tend to listen to very different kinds of music -- I can enjoy both classical music and even Britney Spears, to put it that way (although none of those two are very much played ;-) But I can see qualities in both, and of course, it varies both by time and by the actual piece of music.)... Music can both be a way to change your mood, and the other way around; I usually listen to music that somehow `matches' my mood.
My music listening also seems to be varying over time (perhaps since I tend to sit on my earphones a bit too often *g*) -- I can listen to music all the time for a couple of weeks, or be almost music-less for months... I don't know what causes it, or if it's just a matter of coincidences and habit...
I've converted most of my music collection to Ogg Vorbis (an MP3-like [see illegal copying] format, only better and without the patent problems surrounding MP3), so it's instantly available the second I want it -- that also makes your taste of music quite varied :-)
